Quebec trip & fuel permit rules

Trip permit validity10 days
Fuel permit validityOne trip (certificate for occasional trips)

A trip permit is required for heavy vehicles (GVWR 4,500 kg or more) registered in another province, territory or U.S. state carrying goods or passengers in Quebec, unless IRP-registered with Quebec fees paid. Carriers subject to IFTA without a licence need a certificate for occasional trips before every trip, kept in the vehicle.

Do you need a Quebec trip or fuel permit?

Your truck needs a temporary trip permit for Quebec when its plates are not apportioned (IRP) for Quebec, and a temporary fuel permit when it has no IFTA licence. The fuel permit applies when the total weight or the registered weight is over 11,797 kg (26,000 lb), or when the truck or tractor has more than 2 axles; the weight that triggers a trip permit can differ by province. You can order the two permits together or separately.
