New Brunswick trip & fuel permit rules

Trip permit validity5 consecutive days
Fuel permit validity7 days (may be extended on request in some circumstances)

A commercial trip permit is required for vehicles registered in another jurisdiction unless they are IRP-registered. Non-NB carriers running qualified vehicles without a valid IFTA licence and decals need a vehicle-specific single trip fuel permit, kept in the vehicle during travel in the province.

Do you need a New Brunswick trip or fuel permit?

Your truck needs a temporary trip permit for New Brunswick when its plates are not apportioned (IRP) for New Brunswick, and a temporary fuel permit when it has no IFTA licence. The fuel permit applies when the total weight or the registered weight is over 11,797 kg (26,000 lb), or when the truck or tractor has more than 2 axles; the weight that triggers a trip permit can differ by province. You can order the two permits together or separately.
