North Dakota Trip & Fuel Permits

Permits Canada obtains temporary trip and fuel permits for North Dakota for trucks without IRP plates or an IFTA licence, usually the same day.

Do you need a North Dakota trip or fuel permit?

Your truck needs a temporary trip permit for North Dakota when its plates are not apportioned (IRP) for North Dakota, and a temporary fuel permit when it has no IFTA licence. The fuel permit applies when the total weight or the registered weight is over 11,797 kg (26,000 lb), or when the truck or tractor has more than 2 axles; the weight that triggers a trip permit can differ by state. You can order the two permits together or separately.
